What we
do in UNISON Glasgow City Branch
is look after the rights and interests of
12 thousand members employed by Glasgow City Council, the Council's
Limited Liability Partnerships, Culture and Sport Glasgow, and Glasgow's
Further Education Colleges.
UNISON Glasgow City Branch is a Local Government branch and is the
biggest in Scotland. It services 15 different sub branches and
undertakes a wide range of activities to ensure that the members
interests are at the heart of all we do. Amongst many other things
the branch is continually bargaining for improved conditions of service
for its members; negotiating for the health and safety of members
workplaces; operates a steward system to support members with workplace
issues; produces regular branch magazines and other literature to update
members; and campaigns at a local, national and UK level to improve the
lives of its members and the worlds most vulnerable citizens.
To do this the branch operates a system of workplace based stewards and
office bearers in each sub branch, as well as a range of officers who
undertake duties in the branch office, all of which is entirely
voluntary and in addition to each persons main job. This work is
complemented by a highly committed, small team of administrative staff
employed by UNISON and based in the branch.

UNISON Glasgow City Branch is only able to operate thanks to the
determination and commitment of its lay members and paid staff.
